Unit Exemption
Regulations and Procedures on General Education Course & Unit Exemptions CUHK(SZ)
1. General Exemption Principles
1.1 A course taken in an external institution will be recognized as equivalent to a CUHK(SZ) General Education (GE) course and further considered for exemption if it is comparable in scope and standard, and provides the student with sufficient knowledge to pursue higher level courses at CUHK(SZ) for which the exempted course is a prerequisite.
1.2 The evaluation is based upon the status of the institution where the qualification was gained, the number of hours taken, the normal level of the course in that institution, the grade achieved, the year when the course was taken, etc. In some cases, a test or extra assignments may be specified for the applicant if necessary.
1.3 Once equivalence to a particular CUHK(SZ) GE course is recognized, the student is deemed to have completed the latter course. The student is therefore not allowed to take the exempted course anymore.
1.4 Courses exempted through recognition of such equivalence will not be included in GPA calculations.
1.5 A maximum of 3 credit units will be granted for every exempted course.
2. Application Guidelines
2.1 All the relevant materials need to be handed in to the School Office first. The materials will then be classified and submitted to the General Education (GE) Office. Due to the processing time for evaluation, students should hand in applications as soon as possible so as not to affect the upcoming course selection.
2.2 Required Materials for Application
2.2.1 Completed credit exemption application form.
2.2.2. Copies of certificate / diploma / transcripts from the relevant institution: Students must present original documents to the GE Office for verification if necessary, or students may contact relevant institutions to submit their transcripts to the GE Office.
2.2.3 Course description: The course materials needed for exemption include:
(a) Class hours in total
(b) Course content
(c) Evaluation methods
2.2.4 Applications will not be processed if the required documents are not received.
